Identify clear, specific learning objectives that relate to student needs. Ask someone not involved in the project to read the application, and clarify any confusing and vague language. Avoid acronyms. Reviewers will not recommend funding if they do not understand the application.
Read and follow the guidelines. Many applications cannot beconsidered for funding because they do not comply with the guidelines. Common problems include
Collaborate. If applying for a group grant, describe how the proposed work will be a true team effort. Group grant applications must focus on collegial study. A group grant will not be awarded for two or more individuals to attend a conference or institute. A group grant will not be awarded to support in-service training or a workshop. Avoid writing in the first person. Peer reviewers do not recommend proposals that are collaborative only on the surface or driven by administrative officials.
Relate budget line items with the learning objectives. Budget line items should be consistent with the learning objectives and activities described in the application.
