Union-district teams and ed reform leaders to talk global standards, Common Core, and equity at Oct. 24-25 live streaming event

Watch Pedro Noguera speak at last year’s event on “leading new opportunities to learn.”

Be a part of the larger discussion and connect with others on Twitter and Facebook during the two-day event by using the hashtag #NEAFConvening2013.

On October 24-25, more than 200 leaders in education reform will meet at the NEA Foundation offices in Washington, DC to tackle issues such as race, equity, how we define 21st century education, where global standards meet Common Core, and more. Speakers and panel members at this year’s Cross-Site Convening will include internationally and nationally-recognized front-runners:

  • Richard Riley, Former U.S. Secretary of Education and South Carolina Governor
  •  Anthony Jackson, Vice President for Education, Asia Society
  •  Pedro Noguera, Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education, New York University
  •  Fernando Reimers, Director of Global Education and International Education Policy, Harvard University
  •  Gloria Ladson-Billings, Kellner Family Professor of Urban Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison
  •  Michael Lomax, President and CEO, United Negro College Fund
  •  Gary Orfield, Professor of Education, Law, Political Science and Urban Planning, UCLA
  •  John Jackson, President & CEO, the Schott Foundation for Public Education

Most importantly, the annual convening brings together union-district leadership teams from the NEA Foundation’s Closing the Achievement Gaps Initiative and our Institute for Innovation in Teaching and Learning to develop systems and approaches to improve learning conditions and student performance.
