Announcing the 2018 NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellows!
Congratulations to the 48 educators who have been selected as 2018 Global Learning Fellows!
The newest members of the NEA Foundation family hail from schools in 47 states, plus one Department of Defense school abroad, and in rural, suburban, and urban communities. They teach all grade levels – and all subjects: from visual and performing arts to agri-science, vocational studies to history. They are National Board Certified, curriculum coaches, IB coordinators, foreign language speakers, and more.
We see the strength of new ideas and teaching approaches being born from this diverse cohort, one that will cultivate relationships, encourage educators to learn from each other, and bring global perspectives to a wide range of students and other educators.
The NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellowship will support these 48 educators as they build their own and their students’ understanding of the world and how they fit into it. Fellows’ learning and global engagement doesn’t stop at the edge of their classrooms or at the end of the year. Past Fellows shared free lesson plans created for their students with their colleagues and around the world via an open source platform, brought global art and culture to their communities, and more.
Chosen from over 400 applicants, these educators will spend the next year building global competency skills to prepare themselves and their students for global citizenship. They’ll meet this fall for a two-day workshop, and next summer, they’ll take part in an international field study, where they will experience all aspects of the culture including school visits, and learn with and from local educators. To advance their students’ and other educators’ knowledge, each Fellow will create and freely share valuable global lesson plans with other educators on an open source platform.
We welcome these educators as Global Learning Fellows with a huge round of applause. Learn more about the program here. Many thanks to everyone who applied and shared this opportunity! And a special shout out to our partner EF Educational Tours! For the past seven years, they have helped us turn our global professional development designs into rich hands-on learning laboratories.
