Louis G. Lower II was named President and Chief Executive Officer of The Horace Mann Companies on February 1, 2000  and is a director of Horace Mann Educators Corp, a publicly held (NYSE) corporation. 

Before joining Horace Mann, Lower was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Allstate Life Insurance Company for ten years after serving as Senior Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Investment Officer of both Allstate and Allstate Life. 

He is  also  a Director of the PMI Group, a publicly held (NYSE) mortgage insurance company  and serves as a director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. He is past Chairman of both LOMA and Insurance Marketplace Standards Association (IMSA) and has served on the Boards of the American Council of Life Insurers, LIMRA, LUTC, NAVA and the American College.

Lower is an alumnus of Yale University, where he received a Bachelor degree. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree at Harvard University.
