About Us

The NEA Foundation is a public charity supported by contributions from educators' dues, corporate sponsors, and others. We support student success by helping public school educators work with key partners to build strong systems of shared responsibility.

A great public education for every student.

The NEA Foundation, through the unique strength of its partnership with educators, advances student achievement by investing in public education that will prepare each of America's children to learn and thrive in a rapidly changing world.

To date, the NEA Foundation has invested more than $11 million in its signature, district-based Closing the Achievement Gaps Initiative. The Foundation piloted the Initiative by investing $6 million in three districts with a high number of under-achieving low income and minority students in Hamilton County (Chattanooga), TN; Milwaukee, WI; and Seattle, WA.  With early results from local evaluative efforts showing significant and positive changes in teaching and learning, the Foundation now supports additional sites in Columbus, OH; Springfield, MA; Lee County, FL; and Omaha NE.

The NEA Foundation has invested more than $7.1 million to fund nearly 4,500 grants to public school educators to enhance teaching and learning. On average, each grant impacts the learning of more than 200 students. To build our knowledge base and to uncover new, great practices in public education we invite all eligible educational professionals to apply for these grants.

The NEA Foundation supports educators as they pioneer creative and innovative classroom approaches designed to prepare students for college, work, and life. The Foundation’s innovation work identifies new opportunities and pilot approaches in public education aimed towards preparing all students to learn and thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Our Awards for Teaching Excellence recognize educators whose professional practice and advocacy for the profession are exemplary. They are shining examples of the millions of educators who work in America’s public schools.
