Lionel C. Johnson

 Lionel C. Johnson's career spans nearly 27 years in the private, public, and NGO sectors.  He was recently named Senior Vice President at Fleishman Hillard in Washington, DC.  Headquartered in St. Louis, Fleishman Hillard is part of Omnicom Group Inc., a leading global marketing and corporate communications company. 

Johnson served for a decade as Vice President and Director, International Government Affairs, of Citigroup and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Development, Debt, and Environment Policy in the Clinton Administration.  As Senior Advisor for Resources, Plans and Policy, he advised Secretary of State Warren Christopher on the allocation of International Affairs budget resources.  He also served on the Department of State Policy Planning Staff and the Clinton/Gore transition team.  As a U.S. Foreign Service Officer, Johnson drew assignments in Kenya, the Philippines, and Haiti; and as Special Assistant to Secretaries of State George P. Shultz and James A. Baker, III.

Johnson was a Senior Program Officer of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) where he managed programs in Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, and Africa.  In Haiti, he collaborated with former President Jimmy Carter to support the country’s 1990 elections. 

Johnson served as a graduate instructor of U.S. foreign policy and American politics at the City University of Manila, Philippines from 1985-1987. 

He received his BA in Political Science from Rutgers University in 1982.
