The NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence 2007

Congratulations to James A. Brooks, the 2007 recipient of The NEA-Member Benefits—NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence. Nominated by the North Carolina Association of Educators, Mr. Brooks is an English, Introduction to Film, and Photojournalism Teacher at West Wilkes High School in Millers Creek, North Carolina.The award, which was presented at the Foundation's annual gala on February 8, 2007, recognizes, rewards, and promotes excellence in teaching and advocacy for the profession.

The 2007 Recipients of The Horace MannNEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence

As recipients of The Horace MannNEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence, these five educators will receive a personal gift of $10,000 from the NEA Foundation and the Horace Mann companies. In addition, one of these five will be selected to receive the NEA Member BenefitsNEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence and a additional $25,000.

James A. Brooks, nominated by the North Carolina Association of Educators, is a film and photojournalism teacher at West Wilkes High School in Millers Creek, North Carolina.
Trent Daniel, nominated by the Florida Education Association, is an eighth- and ninth-grade chemistry and biology and chair of the science department at Hagerty High School in Oviedo, Florida.
Kimberly Oliver, nominated by the Maryland State Teachers Association, is a kindergarten teacher at Broad Acres Elementary School in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Pamela Sime, nominated by the Pennsylvania State Educators Association, is a science teacher at Unami Middle School in Chalfont, Pennsylvania.
Donald Jay Stanforth, nominated by the Arizona Education Association, is a third- and fourth-grade teacher at Hendricks Elementary School in Tucson, Arizona.

These five were selected from the recipients of The I CAN Learn®–NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence, listed below. The I CAN Learn®—NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence are given to everyone nominated by their NEA state affiliate for The NEA Member Benefits—The NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence. They also receive funding to attend the gala from the I CAN Learn® Education Systems.
