The NEA Foundation Awards for
Teaching Excellence
The NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching
Excellence recognize, reward, and promote excellence
in teaching and advocacy for the profession. They honor
public education and the dedicated members of the National
Education Association (NEA).

Every spring, nominations for these prestigious
awards are submitted to the NEA Foundation by the state
and direct affiliates of the NEA.
These affiliate nominees receive The I
CAN Learn® Awards for Teaching Excellence.
A gift from I CAN
Learn® Education Systems allows all nominees
to attend the Foundation's annual Salute
to Excellence in Education gala held each February in Washington, DC.
From the affiliate nominees, five national
finalists are chosen based on their
- outstanding instructional expertise
- creativity and innovation
- attention to diversity and individual
student needs, learning styles, and experiences
- leadership in professional development
- advocacy for the profession and
dedication to lifelong learning
- ability to engage parents and
the community
These five finalists for the national
award receive The Horace Mann Awards
for Teaching Excellence, which include $10,000 and financial
support to attend the gala from The
Horace Mann Companies.
One national finalist is selected to receive
The NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence, which
includes an additional $25,000, celebration at the gala,
a personalized commemorative gift, and national recognition.
All current members of a local
NEA affiliate or bargaining unit, including teachers,
education support professionals, and higher education
faculty and staff are eligible. For details on how to
apply or nominate an outstanding educator, contact
your state affiliate.
