Ms. Helmer and Ms. Dowling will collaborate to integrate science content with reading, reasoning, research, and writing skills. The project will provide hands on experiences for first grade at risk students enabling them to develop content knowledge, literacy skills, vocabulary, and inquiry skills through reading fiction and nonfiction selections. Students will be provided with a take-home backpack meant to facilitate family participation in students’ learning experiences.
