To combat pervasive societal perceptions that often paint disabled, minority, and economically disadvantaged students as troublemakers, Ms. Lien and her team will address the disparity found in the disciplinary and instructional practices that exist in classrooms. Through the learning experience and an emerging equity lens, the team will identify culturally responsive ways to engage at-risk students. The cohort will leverage students’ unique talents, voices, and ways of being, which have been historically negated, to cultivate a culture of understanding and respect in their schools.
