To address the achievement gap in their school, Ms. Hawkins and Ms. Wise implement a program to make mathematics more meaningful to students. Students participate in interactive field trips to experience mathematics in the real world: they solve problems for local business vendors, work with a sports statistician, analyze the mathematical aspects of constructing a new building, and engage in mathematics and science explorations at an amusement park. Students keep a journal of their experiences to summarize learning, reflect on careers, and complete all field trip activities.
