This action research project will investigate ways of developing a general music program that provides building blocks of skillful jazz improvisation in young students.The project will consist of a qualitative study of teacher practices and high school jazz musician assessments of their musical training and experience, presentation of the study results to colleagues, and interactive discussions on the possibilities for curriculum development.
