Alana Kooi

In order to make the writing workshop approach more effective in the teaching of expository writing, Mrs. Kooi and her colleagues plan to examine student writing for specific skills needed to write strong persuasive essays. The group will examine student essay samples from fifth grade through twelfth grade for specific skills in six trait categories. These traits will be arranged in a continuum of skills required for effective persuasive essays that can then be used to develop specific workshop mini-lessons designed to motivate students to raise the quality of their persuasive essays.
