Wahl-Coates School’s third graders will explore history through a child’s eyes with lessons utilizing field research, data gathering, and writing across the curriculum.  Hands-on activities include visits to the site of a historic Native American village, a colonial-era royal governor’s residence, a one-room schoolhouse and rural homestead that date back to the Civil War, and a group of senior citizens who grew up during the Great Depression.  These trips will provide the springboards for comparing and contrasting childhood experiences from the past and present and for writing both research reports and historical fiction.
