Dr. Martens and her colleagues will investigates how global literature— stories with settings outside the US— supports and develops first and second grader students’ intercultural understandings. A study group of seven teachers and two university researchers will meet regularly to discuss global literature, examine student work, and plan ways to use global books with children. The group will analyze interviews with the children at the beginning and end of the project, as well as their responses to global books during the project, to learn the intercultural understandings they develop.
