View Acres Elementary School students will design and develop a large vegetable and native plant garden as part of a new staff-initiated science program that is based on state science standards, student inquiry, and project based learning.  Lessons focused on the garden will engage students in learning about the cycles and structures of plants and animals, the interaction of living things with their environment, concepts of sustainability through organic gardening, composting, recycling and renewable resources, and nutrition.  Students will learn about hunger issues and discover the importance of community service as they donate the food they grow to a local food pantry.
