Turning the Key to Literacy will increase reading and writing proficiency by integrating technology into the classroom. Ms. Farrens and a team of colleagues will use response clickers to monitor and evaluate student responses to multiple choice questions. To increase reading proficiency, teachers will use the clickers to assess students’ knowledge of high frequency words, rhyming words, and spelling words. To increase writing proficiency, interactive writing lessons involving the whole class will be demonstrated using document cameras. Through increased student participation, first graders will develop critical literacy skills.
