Opening the World for Our Kids

Broadening Horizons

Precious Crabtree brought two very unique souvenirs home from her field study in Peru: artists.

Precious is an elementary school art teacher in Fairfax, Virginia, and her experience as a 2015 NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellow changed her life and her classroom. The Fellowship provided Precious with year-long professional development, as well as an international field study in Peru. There she met Pablo Seminario and Marilú Behar, Peruvian ceramic artists.

She emerged from the program with new lessons and techniques to better connect with her students and encourage them to share who they are culturally through their work. And she began using Skype calls to connect Pablo and Marilú with her students.

This past April, two years after having met Pablo and Marilú, they arrived to share their knowledge face-to-face with her entire elementary school!

Check out the video above to see Pablo, Marilú, and Precious at work with her students. Please know that your donation helps bring transformative experiences like this to students and educators across the country.
