Utah Educator Sees Peer Mentorship As Key To Teacher Retention

While the COVID-19 pandemic has presented many challenges for the public education system, educators leaving the profession at an alarming rate is near the top of the list. Utah educator and 2022 Horace Mann Awardee for Teaching Excellence recipient Alexandra Castellanos Smith has seen this firsthand in her own community.

To offer solutions to these issues and share her experience, she authored an article calling for more mentorship programs among seasoned educators and those who are just getting started. With the right support from colleagues and the community, she believes educators can succeed during the pandemic continue their growth within the profession.
