Before the excitement of the Oscars and the Grammys, there’s a special kind of awards show you won’t want to miss. It’s time to celebrate our amazing public school educators — the men and women who make a world of difference to our nation’s students!
So grab your family, friends, and colleagues, and tune in for live streaming coverage of our annual awards gala on Friday, February 10, 2017!
The NEA Foundation’s annual Salute to Excellence in Education Gala, held in Washington, D.C., will honor 43 public school educators from across the country.
They are award-winning math teachers, agriscience experts, kindergarten instructors, and more, selected by their peers for these prestigious awards, celebrating their innovative teaching, leadership, attention to diversity, and ability to engage parents and the community.
On Friday, join us to cheer on public schools’ finest. Helping us honor them is Victoria Rowell, an actress, director, producer, advocate, and New York Times bestselling author of “The Women Who Raised Me,” our host for the evening.
In addition to the NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence, we will be inspired by the All Souls Choir, one of the first multiracial choirs in Washington, D.C., and Broadway performer, Christopher Rice. We are also planning a surprise performance.
Stay tuned until the end for the biggest surprise of all — who takes home the evening’s top award!
Five of the 43 educators being honored will also receive the Horace Mann Awards for Teaching Excellence and $10,000. But only one will go on to win the NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence and $25,000, announced in the evening’s nail-biting finale.
The NEA Foundation will also honor Global Kids, the premier nonprofit educational organization for global competency and youth development, for its efforts to ensure that youth from underserved areas have the knowledge, skills, experiences and values they need to succeed in school, participate effectively in the democratic process, and achieve leadership in their communities and on the global stage.
